What is the difference between H-beam and I-beam for steel structure buildings?

Time:2020-07-06

Steel structure buildings are made of steel for raw material processing, and H-beam and I-beam are two types of large steel components that are often heard, so what is the difference between the two? For example, the following two pictures, which is H-beam and which is I-beam?

Friends who are familiar with steel structure buildings can see at a glance that the first picture is I-beam, the second picture is H-beam, and the following Xiaobian will introduce you to the difference between the two.

6 points of difference between H-beam and I-beam:

1. From the perspective of national standards

They all have their own national standards, the national standard of hot-rolled H-beam steel is (GB/T11263-2005), and the national standard of I-beam is (GB/T706-2008 hot-rolled section steel).

2. From the appearance

The flange of H-beam steel is flat, the thickness does not change, while the flange of I-beam is gradually thinner from the root to the edge, there is a certain angle, and the inner edge of the flange has a slope of 1:10, which is a significant feature that distinguishes them.

3. From the performance point of view

The I-beam section is subject to good straight pressure and tensile resistance, but the section size is too narrow because the wing plate is too narrow to resist torsion. H-beam steel, on the contrary, has its own advantages and disadvantages.

4. From the perspective of product use

I-beams can generally only be directly used for bent members in their web plane or to form lattice stressed members, and are not suitable for axial compression members or components perpendicular to the web plane and bent, which makes it have great limitations in the scope of application, generally used for beams.

Unlike ordinary I-beams, the flange of H-beams is widened and the inner and outer surfaces are usually parallel, which makes it easy to connect with high-strength bolts and other components. Its size composition is reasonable series, complete models, easy to design and choose (except for I-beam steel for crane beam), can be used for the load-bearing column of the structure.

5. From the production process

The flanges of H-beams are all of equal thickness, with rolled cross-sections and combined cross-sections consisting of 3 plate welds. I-beams are all rolled cross-sections, and due to poor production processes, there is a 1:10 slope on the inside of the flange. The rolling of H-beam steel is different from ordinary I-beams using only one set of horizontal rolls, because its flange is wide and has no slope (or the slope is small), so a set of vertical rolls must be added at the same time. Therefore, its rolling process and equipment are more complex than ordinary rolling mills. The maximum rolled H-beam that can be produced in China is 800m, which exceeds the cross-section that can only be welded combination.

6. From the model point of view

The

model of I-beam is represented by the Arabic numerals of the number of centimeters of its waist height, and the model with the same waist height is added to distinguish with A, B, C at the back, such as 20A, 20B, 32C, the waist height of the first two is 20cm, and the web, flange thickness and flange width are different; The H-beam steel is divided according to the width, medium and narrow of the flange, respectively represented by HW, HH, HN plus the size of the web and flange, the types are more diverse, such as HM500x300x11x15, representing waist height 500mm, thickness 11mm, flange width 300mm, thickness 18mm, in fact, this is only a theoretical value, and the actual deviation.
